Are You a Web Designer at Heart?

Web designing is not all about creating a responsive platform for your client to spread and develop his/her online business but it is much more. It is an art that uses scientific techniques and methods to fledge itself fully. As the other four senses of hearing, touching, tasting and smelling are not applicable to web designs, a designer should make the best use of the fifth one i.e. visibility. And to achieve that end and provide your clients with a well designed and developed website, you have to take care of few things as discussed below:

1. Designer’s instinct:
Even if you are not much experienced and acquainted with complex codes and programs, you can become a designer or developer based on your common perceptions about what looks good, what is better and which is the best or the worst web design. If you have that designer’s instinct to know the pros and cons of an apparently responsive design or a design that looks terribly noisy (yet is the client’s favourite), you can ultimately become a successful web designer. On the other hand, if you do not have the eye to compare between effectiveness and impression, you will not be able to meet all the requirements of a well-designed and highly effective website. Hence it is very important to be a designer at heart first than to become a designer in books.

2. Design tools
If you want to be able to design an effective and highly functional website for your client, you have to be familiar with certain important aspects of the design like colour, contrast, flow of design, white spaces and overall balance. These are your basic tools (or you can say concepts) for designing and developing an effective website. You have to be familiar with the ideas to implement them properly in your designs. Even a single mistake can render the design unresponsive or an increase in bounce rates. Hence you should read a lot, think a lot and design a website after going through a series of trial and errors.

3. Knowledge of HTML and CSS
In simple words, if you are professional designer, you cannot do without these two major aspects of web development and design. Your work does not end with Photoshop but you also have to be well acquainted with basic HTML coding and CSS. Otherwise your design will not be functional in the long run. After all, aesthetics is not the only factor which influences the effectiveness of a website, but functionality is one of the major objectives as well.
